What excites you most about your PIRE research?

The fact that the PIRE project aims to improve crop yield forecasts at the scales pertinent to farmers and water managers, train peculiar global experts who are not simply technical experts but also who acknowledge the political, institutional; and climate and ecological aspect of water-food-energy nexus issues. Moreover, the emphasis given to achieve these objectives through successfully communicating with international partners and effective communication with stakeholders of various backgrounds is exciting.

  •  What’s the most valuable aspect of your research for the people and communities?

In this project, my role is to coordinate policy/stakeholder workshops and summer schools. This is very important component of the PIRE project as it is one of the key points which makes it peculiar. The stakeholder workshops are forums where both research ideas are enriched and results disseminated in time and feedbacks collected. It is the means to link with both the grassroots communities and water managers and administrative officials and decision makers. With regards to summer schools, these are opportunities for students to get hands on experience to carry out applied scientific research which could solve problems on the ground. For me both coordinating policy/stakeholder workshops and summer schools are valuable.
