Research focus: Remote Sensing Hydrology, Satellite Remote Sensing and GIS for geo-resource evaluation, GRACE satellite applications for water resources managements, sea level rise analysis, and fractal geometry. Water-climate nexus and water resources evaluation over the Nile River Basin, Africa. Developing an enhanced water poverty index using GRACE satellite data.
What excites you most about your PIRE research?
I am studying the water-climate nexus over a geopolitical transboundary river basin. My current study-area is the Nile River Basin (NRB). The PIRE project’s focus is to study the human-water interactions over the Blue Nile Basin (BNB), the main source of the River Nile. I am also so excited to use the applications of the remote sensing hydrology over the BNB to understand the current status of the water resources.
What’s the most valuable aspect of your research for the people and communities?
My research is interdisciplinary and dedicated to helping the people without sufficient ground observations to understand the state of their water resources. My future research goal is build a full SIWA system: “Spatial Information for Water resources Amassment” to monitor the water resources over data-poor regions, especially in Africa.
