What excites you most about your PIRE research?

PIRE is a project that connects the researchers and policy makers to the local farmers of Ethiopia, which is the ultimate user group. Apart from the technicality of the project and the practice of state of the art weather and crop yield forecasting concepts, it is the direct involvement of the most vulnerable user group (the local farmers) into the project implementation phase that thrives my interest.

What’s the most valuable aspect of your research for the people and communities?

My research includes the assessment of subsurface hydrological resources in data scarce regions. Understanding the scientific and physical processes associated with it, and the application of GIS and remote sensing based tools for the hydrological assessments and predictions are parts of it. I also have interests in exploring the socioeconomic aspects of improved water management. I prefer putting high emphasis on investigating the integrated benefits and sustainable upshots of any scientific implication, with the ultimate aim being the contribution to societal details rather than bounding myself within the technological scope only. This aspect of thinking for the people and their portions of project benefits is something I consider as an integral aspect of my research.
