Research focus: My research interest is to understand the rainfall-runoff processes, the soil erosion and sediment transport, polutant sources, and watershed management to improve the soil and water conservation and water productivity. With the help of the PhD students in the Integrated Water Management Program and with help of MS students in the Engineering Hydrology program, I am actively involved in research and modeling better ways to manage water in the Blue Nile Basin.

What excites you most about your PIRE research?

The most exciting part of the PIRE project is to incorporate the citizen science concept by integrating social science data with biophysical data to improve the predictability of water for decision making. In addition, the linking of scientific information with Nexus activities of water-agriculture-energy in the project is exciting.

What’s the most valuable aspect of your research for the people and communities?

My role in the project involves identifying ways to manage better water at farm and watershed levels by considering social issues, landscape change, and climate variability within the targeted areas of BNB and to inform farmers and watershed managers the best way to manage the scarce water.
